Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon is among eminent Africans, who have bagged the prestigious African Award of Excellence of Concepts University, Bricgstock Road, London.
Other eminent Africans who would also receive awards are Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Timi Preye Sylva, Kofi Annan, former secretary general of the United Nations; Gabriel Suswan, governor of Benue State and Mohammed Ibon Chambers.
Others are Dr. Jinmi Adisa, Dr. Akere Muna, Senator George Akume, Hon Nelson Alapa, Colonel Sunday Samson Jiya, managing director of the World Bank, Dr. Ngozi Okonji-Iweala; Minister for Information and Communication, Professor Dora Akunyili; former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo and Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, House of Representatives, Hon Eyiboh Eseme Sunday.
The awards are in honour of distinguished achievements towards good leadership and sustainable development in Africa.
The two-day event, which is billed to kick off at the Paradise Suite Hotel, Banjul, in the Gambian, is being packaged in collaboration with World Information Distributed University (WIDU), Belgium.

The award is being given to Africans and those in Diaspora, whose activities have contributed immensely to the development of human capital and the society at large.
The occasion will also be used to chart a course on: “The Role of Leaders in Enhancing Peoples lives in Africa, psycho-social issues with HIV/AIDS and its effect on the family structure, tradition and the community”.
In a statement made available to the press, it stated that the award will have, in attendance, high level participants from public and private organizations in the Gambia, in Africa and those in the Diaspora.
The statement further said that the award is also to recognize contributions made by awardees towards the development of their various spheres of contact and interaction.
It added that the award is a historic one from world class reputable college recognized by the Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC), United Kingdom. It pointed out that the event will provide a great opportunity for networking, as delegates will be arriving from various African countries and the United Kingdom.
President of Concepts University, London Dr. Ezey Marcel said: “The African Award of Excellence exists for the sole purpose of according recognition to those individuals, who have, by their actions, shown themselves to be in the forefront of the positive contributions geared towards the uplift and progress of our dear continent of Africa.”
He said that these outstanding individuals have made deep in-roads towards the enhancement of good governance and democracy and have been champions with collective fight against poverty and diseases.
